Threads 118: My Visit to England

I have just come back from a visit to England to see my sister. While I was there, I took a half day basketry workshop in Lewis Sussex by the local basketry group. It was held in a local Township hall with big tall windows and lots of room where there were four or five workshops happening at the same time.

The workshop I took was for mask making, and we all sat round a large table with the instructor at one end. I was a little disappointed that we all made the same mask, my creative side wanted to rebel and add whiskers or ears. I had never thought of making a handheld mask with a stick rather than an attached mask.

We used 3 foot Willow, which was nice and pliable. We were not given any written instructions which would have been helpful.

Here are some photographs taken at the basketry workshop. A wonderful array of contemporary basketry in England.
