Threads 86: Valentine special

A woven paper basket card for your family and favourite friends.

This woven Valentine's card is based on a traditional Scandinavian Christmas card, which was made and hung on a Christmas tree. It contained a special candy.

This card can be made with pink and white construction paper or fine birch bark.

The complexity of the card can be varied with the number of fingers. A very simple version, like the one shown above, has three fingers. Below are sketches showing the starting pieces and how they go together. One set of fingers is the warp and the other set is the weft. Each finger is assembled in an under-over pattern.

At the bottom is a set of instructions for a second design, which is made in a similar fashion, but with more detail.

These basket cards can be made by children, but the finer ones are more fiddly to make.  Don't forget to put in a goody before you give it away.

Happy Valentine!
