Threads 122: Our first regional basketmaker workshop with Michael Peterson
As part of the Lanark Highlands Basketry Museum 10th Anniversary, we are organising a series of workshops highlighting some of our regional basketmakers with different materials and techniques.
Our first workshop will be taught by Michael Peterson, from Bristol, Quebec.
I first met Michael in the 1980s, when he attended a workshop I was teaching at the Haliburton School of Fine Art. Since then, he has continued making baskets and teaching and our paths have crossed occasionally - I was so thrilled to see him at the opening of the museum. It is rather surprising to think that we met making baskets over 40 years ago and now he’ll be at the museum. It’s a full circle moment.
He will be teaching a rattan/round reed basketry workshop using basic techniques - for beginners and experienced basket makers. Join Michael on Saturday, March 7 at MERA Schoolhouse in McDonalds Corners, 10am - 4pm.

Keep your eyes open for exciting upcoming workshops during the spring and fall!
P.S. Join me for stories about teaching basketry around the world at the Lanark Library on Saturday, February 7 11am-12pm. I’ll bring a selection of baskets to share.
